Local Performance Troupe Offers Unique Interactive Show
Mobile Murder Mystery
Fosters Teamwork, Problem-Solving, Fun
CHARLOTTE (March 10,
2005) – What do murder, mystery and intrigue have in common with teamwork,
investigating clues and creative problem solving? At About Town Tours, LLC, a
Charlotte-based company that presents and performs murder mystery productions,
audience members don’t just watch a play, they become active participants,
using their investigative skills to ask questions, gather clues and work
together to solve the play’s mysterious plot.
About Town Tours, LLC and
its cast of actors, the “ComeSolveIt-Charlotte Players,” produce several
unique murder mysteries designed to be performed virtually anywhere. Instead of
requiring a group to attend the play at a standard location, the cast presents a
mobile, self-contained mystery show, complete with actors, costumes, props,
handouts for audience members and prizes for the team who solves the mystery.

founder Della Freedman says the experience encourages groups of people, many of
whom are often total strangers, to work together to solve the mystery and win
prizes for their cooperation.
“Everyone gets to
participate,” Freedman said. “By working together, and using each other’s
skills, each group or team of ‘investigators’ gets the opportunity to be
involved, be creative and have fun.”
Members of the
“ComeSolveIt-Charlotte Players” say the opportunity to break down the
“fourth wall” between the cast and the audience provides unique acting
challenges.
“This type of
interactive performance lets me work on my improvisational abilities, and I
definitely have to ‘think on my feet’ more,” said “ComeSolveIt-Charlotte
Players” actor Linda Smith. “Interacting with the audience is a rare
experience for most actors. I love bantering with the audience and trying to
stay one step ahead of them.”
“An actor’s
‘chops’ are on the line in any improvisational situation where the audience
is able to interact with the cast because anything can happen, and it usually
does,” said “ComeSolveIt-Charlotte Players” actor Hugh Loomis. “When an
actor has successfully and convincingly survived that mentality, the audience
also feels similarly challenged by being asked to solve the mystery. Their
interaction with the play gives them a taste of a theatrical experience they may
have never experienced otherwise.”

Della Freedman, a
